Choose the language before starting
Original language on a title page describes the production. It does not list every available dub or subtitle track. Open the chosen edition’s audio and subtitle menu to check the language you need. Captions may include speaker labels and sound cues as well as dialogue.
Text does not match the dub exactly
A subtitle translation and a dubbed script can be prepared separately. Different wording is not automatically a fault. Choose subtitles intended for the audio track where that option exists, or use original audio with translated subtitles if that is more comfortable.
Text is early, late or drifting
Confirm the film cut or series episode first. A consistent offset may respond to a timing control if the player offers one. Drift that changes throughout the film can indicate a mismatched version. An intro, recap or extended scene can also shift the timing.
Make the text readable
Increase size, strengthen the outline or add a background where supported. Test against bright scenes and dark scenes. On a Smart TV, check the result from your seat. On a phone, a slightly larger subtitle may be more useful than increasing video resolution.
